How to Prepare & What to Expect

How to Prepare and What to Expect for Your MFR Session

Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid Lotions: Refrain from using lotion, sunscreen, or facial moisturizer on the day of your session to ensure optimal skin contact.
  • Dress Comfortably: Wear or bring exercise clothing such as a sports bra and running shorts if we’re addressing your legs, hips, or back. For neck or head focus, opt for loose, comfortable clothing.
  • John Barnes Myofascial Release (MFR) is performed directly on the skin, with your safety and comfort always prioritized.
  • Stay Hydrated: Arrive well-hydrated to optimize the results of your bodywork.

During Your Session

  • Direct Skin Contact: MFR is performed without oils or lubricants, allowing for a deeper reach into the fascia.
  • Comfort is Key: You will not need to fully disrobe. Appropriate sportswear is preferred for your comfort and ease.
  • Pain-Free Approach: MFR is gentle and non-injurious. While moments of “therapeutic discomfort” may occur, the session should never be painful.
  • Mind-Body Connection: Many clients experience a deeper connection to their breath and an enhanced awareness of their body during the session.

After Your Session

  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water post-session to rehydrate released fascia and support lasting results.
  • Expect a range of Sensations: Most clients feel deeply relaxed or fully energized afterward. A small percentage may experience mild soreness or temporary “therapeutic chaos” as the body recalibrates. These sensations typically last 1-2 days and are positive signs of your body moving toward balance.
  • Empowerment Tools: You’ll leave with personalized insights and proactive “homework” to support and expedite your healing process.
